The SK-EX full concert grand piano is officially selected for international piano competitions around the world, including the International Chopin Piano Competition. The SK-EX rendering sound source included in the NOVUS NV12/NV6 is an innovative sound source system in which the entire system operates solely for this one sound. Multi-channel, multi-layered sampling technology and modeling technology that faithfully reproduces the resonance and sound of all 88 keys deliver a wide dynamic range, from piercingly powerful strikes to whisperingly soft strikes, creating a sound that makes you feel as if you're playing in a concert hall.

A grand piano produces sound primarily through the vibration of its strings and soundboard. Furthermore, various other small sounds combine to create the complex and rich "grand piano sound." The evolved SK-EX rendering sound source samples two of these small sounds, the moment the hammer strikes the strings and the moment the key strikes the bottom when pressed, separately from the sounds of the strings and soundboard. These are individually adjusted to maximize the appeal of the SK-EX.

88-key resonance modeling reproduces the rich resonance of a grand piano -
The 88-key Resonance Modeling reproduces the piano's resonance, which travels from the hammers of each of the 88 keys through the strings, bridge, soundboard, and frame, and then returns to the strings, vibrating again. This phenomenon changes in complex ways depending on the strength of the keystrokes and pedaling, and the 88-key Resonance Modeling has been further improved to model the effects of different damper shapes in each range, reproducing the complex and lustrous resonance of the piano's sound that was previously impossible, further expanding the range of performance expression that pianists desire.

The Kawai grand piano's key action, made with carbon fiber-reinforced ABS resin for key components, is both highly rigid and lightweight. Acoustic pianos are equipped with a damper mechanism that suppresses string vibration when a key is released. When the damper pedal is not pressed, a force that lifts the damper is applied to the key, resulting in a heavy touch. However, when the damper pedal is pressed, the entire damper is lifted, resulting in a lighter touch. This mechanism gives acoustic pianos a unique characteristic: the touch changes depending on whether the damper pedal is pressed or not. The NV12 is equipped with a damper mechanism, which has not previously been available in digital pianos, recreating the playing feel of an acoustic piano with a damper.

The 5-inch color touchscreen allows for easy operation, much like using a smartphone. Piano mode allows you to concentrate on playing the piano, allowing you to freely select and easily adjust the SK-EX, EX, SK-5, or upright piano tones. Additionally, the new "Recently Played Tones List," "Recommended Tones List," and "Favorite Tones List" allow you to easily select tones like in a playlist, making operation more user-friendly than ever before.
In addition, by using a dedicated app, you can operate your smartphone or tablet in the same way as the touch panel. For example, you can place your smartphone on the music stand and remotely operate the touch panel at the same eye level as the sheet music.
