At Kawai Malaysia, our commitment to piano care extends beyond the instrument itself. We believe that maintaining the performance and musical character of a piano requires skilled technicians with the right knowledge, experience and attention to detail.
As part of this commitment, Kawai Malaysia recently sent our local piano technicians to Indonesia for a 2-week professional training programme, giving them the opportunity to further develop their technical expertise through direct exposure to Kawai’s manufacturing and servicing practices.
From Piano Making to Piano Care
During the programme, our technicians visited the Kawai Indonesia factory and gained insight into various stages of piano production, from the construction of the soundboard and piano rim to the assembly of the action, keys and strings.
The training also focused extensively on the servicing of upright and grand pianos, covering tuning, regulation and voicing through hands-on practice.
Under the guidance of Mr. Suyono, Kawai Master Piano Artisan (MPA), the technicians worked on fundamental and advanced tuning techniques, while developing a more refined understanding of tone, touch and the adjustments required for different types of instruments and playing environments.
One of our technicians, Mr. Ivan Teo shared:
“He was very attentive, patient and clear in his explanations and demonstrations. He guided us to recognise whether the work was done well, within an acceptable range, could be improved further, or was not yet satisfactory — and how to respond appropriately to different situations and requirements.”

The training also included guidance from specialists in the Upright and Grand Piano divisions, allowing the technicians to work through regulation procedures and further understand Kawai's technical standards.

Beyond the technical sessions, the programme included concert tuning observation, as well as visits to a local Kawai showroom, and Kawai Music School training facility.

Bringing Kawai's Standards Back to Malaysia
For Kawai Malaysia, investing in technical expertise is an important part of our commitment to our customers.
A piano is a finely crafted instrument, and maintaining its performance requires more than simply adjusting its pitch. It requires technical knowledge, a trained ear, attention to detail and an understanding of how every adjustment contributes to the instrument's overall response and musical character.

By giving our local technicians access to international training and direct knowledge-sharing with experienced Kawai Master Piano Artisans and specialists, we continue to strengthen our technical capabilities here in Malaysia.

Because craftsmanship does not end when a piano leaves the factory. It continues in the hands of the people who care for it.
Kawai Malaysia remains committed to bringing this level of knowledge, care and technical expertise to every piano we service — helping our customers enjoy the sound, performance and musical potential of their Kawai instruments for years to come..
